I ran on a handful of list messages (10 of them) and added
them to a mhonarc archive one at a time, with MAXSIZE
set to 3. This version preserved the thread slices, while
2.6.16 pretty much clobbered the thread slices.

Looks good to me.

When messages are removed from an archive, mhonarc
tags surrounding messages for update so any navigation
links will be updated to avoid stale links.

My guess is that this behavior is what causes tslices
to whittle down.

Since KEEPONRMM implies that links to "removed" messages
will still resolve, it seems that if KEEPONRMM is enabled,
mhonarc should not tag surrounding messages for
messages that have been removed due to expiration (like
max archive limit).

I've added this behavior is a development version I provided
to you (Jeff) via private messages.  If after testing,
the change gives you the behavior you desire, I can commit
the change into CVS.

I wonder how hard this is.

Poor mans windowing (e.g. KEEPONRMM) for a large list
works great, except that thread slices can get modified
when the thread starts to slide out of the window.

I think that is what is causing the thread slices to
whittle down in the following message set.

http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-raid@vger.kernel.org/msg02336.html
http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-raid@vger.kernel.org/msg02338.html
http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-raid@vger.kernel.org/msg02339.html

It would be nice (but maybe hard) if KEEPONRMM somehow
prevented removing links from the thread slice.
