WeeChat now sends UTF-8 by default (since 0.2.3). If on some servers (or everywhere) you want to use other charset, use these commands : for global: /setp charset.global.encode = ISO-8859-15 for a server (on server buffer): /charset encode ISO-8859-15
If this fixes problem, I'll close this bug. Otherwise, please explain problem, thank you.

I noticed that channelnames in version 0.2.3 are sent to the server as UTF-8. However, most (all?) IRCds do not use UTF-8-Channelnames but still use latin-1. This unfortunately renders weechat 0.2.3 unable to join channels containing e.g. german umlauts ('ä', 'ö', 'ü', 'ß') - and many other special characters aswell.
(Note: upload size limit is set to 16384 kB, after insertion of the required escape characters.)
