As a FreeType user, there doesn't seem to be a supported way to add support for additional (custom) font formats.

This can almost be done (By writing a Driver similar to how the provided ones are written), except for the fact that several of the data structures that are needed are not publicly available (They're in FT_INTERNAL stuff).

After various discussions on the mailing lists, it was requested to open a bug here to track this issue.
