Chinese is displayed in Konqueror (and Iceweasel) when I install ttf-arphic-uming [1]. This package is recommended by scim-pinyin and scim-chewing.

Installing these two packages did not change the symptoms:

xfonts-intl-chinese
xfonts-intl-chinese-big
