The installation process puts a boot.cfg file in /boot
The values in that default will show the Freedo picture and some of the boot process and then hang indefinitely.

The values provided by default, which do not work, are:

title Boot with GNU GRUB2
 kernel (wd0,0)/boot/grub.elf
 args string-to-work-around-old-pmon-bug

One set of values which boot successfully (based on current partitioning) even they might be undesirable or inefficient,

 title gNewSense metad - hda1
  kernel (wd0,0)/vmlinux-2.6.32.3-libre1-lemote
  initrd (wd0,0)/initrd.img-2.6.32.11-libre1-lemote
  args console=tty no_auto_cmd root=/dev/hda1 rootdelay=0
