Wed 12 Sep 2012 04:15:30 PM UTC, comment #2: If you set %TERM% to "cygwin", nano and vi begin working normally. I updated the installer to automatically set %TERM% so that nano works out of the box.

The nano.exe binary released at http://www.nano-editor.org/dist/v2.2/NT/nano-2.2.6.zip does not seem to run in Windows.
