Please do not duplicate the any locale file as it also means duplicate maintenance. The Dutch locale has now been changed to "nl" only and if the proper fall back mechanisms are in place it should work for both nl_BE and nl_NL.

I think you might be right about getting the English translation. Good, I'll duplicate the Dutch locale as far as translation goes.

I'll give you a head's up via this bug entry when the Flemish index ordering is implemented and gone live on dev.maposmatic.org, so you can verify it's sorting correctly.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The translation file looks good, but I got English terms instead of Dutch. Probably because I selected "Koninkrijk België (NL)" as language of the map, and there is no file for nl_BE. So I assume it defaulted to English.

And thanks in advance to implement the other sorting order.

Hi Sander,

I did the nl_NL translation. As far as the index goes, I'll implement a Flemish (nl_BE) indexing locale following your suggestion.

In regards to the translations for Place of Worship, etc., these are already translated into Dutch, but if you have a more Flemish suggestion, we could easily have a separate locale there too.

The original English words/sentences and their Dutch translation are defined here:

http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/maposmatic/ocitysmap.git/plain/locale/nl_NL/LC_MESSAGES/ocitysmap.po

If you were to replace the Dutch translations there with Flemish and attach the result to this bug, I'll happily integrate it for you.

As for the indexing 'De Wittelaan' being sorted under 'D' versus 'W', I'll have a patch adding the nl_BE indexing before the week is out.

Thanks for your comments!

Best regards,
Jeroen

Hi,

I come from Flanders, the official language I speak is Belgian Dutch (nl-BE), although we like to call it Flemish.

There are a few differences between the languages nl-BE and nl-NL. One of the major differences is alphabetically sorting.

In nl-NL, they search for the major word, and sort on that. Like if some street is called "De Wittelaan", it is sorted under the letter "W". But in nl-BE, we sort letter by letter, ignoring special signs. So "De Wittelaan" is sorted under the letter "D".

Ignoring special signs means that "Den Bossche" comes before "De Wittelaan", which comes before "D'ezelstraat". As you have the orders DEN->DEW->DEZ.

Currently, OSMatic only implements the nl-NL way of sorting. I wonder if it would be possible to implement the nl-BE way of sorting too.

And as a second question, is there somewhere I can contribute to translate the copyright notice and the categories such as "Place of worship" or "Education" to Dutch?
