RFC 6686 mentions that, even today, nine years after RFC3597, it happens that some DNS servers reply to "known" RR types such as A or TXT but times out when queried about unknown RR types, for instance when they are "too recent" (RFC 6686 is about SPF).

It would be nice for Zonecheck to test this. I suggest to query the name servers for an unallocated type (number 666 or similar). The correct answer is an immediate NOERROR,ANSWER=0. Everything else (SERVFAIL, NXDOMAIN, time out) is a bug
