Thanks for looking into this. I've patched our kernel accordingly and it's now available in the repo. Please test if it works with your hardware.

I checked the last revision. In this case only I made a little change in config file [2] (without modify anything in debian/patches/series due that the most important troubled r8169 patches were commented). In Parabola, we had CONFIG_R8169 as module and CONFIG_R8169_VLAN disabled in the 2.6.36.2 version [1]. Debian has CONFIG_R8169_VLAN enabled. So, I decided to try build with the same configuration (R8169 modules) that we had in Parabola when we used 2.6 kernels and now works! Conclusion: CONFIG_R8169_VLAN should be the problem. Solved!

I made a wrong revision due that my modification was related with linux-2.6_2.6.32-41gnewsense1.diff.gz, not linux-2.6_2.6.32-45gnewsense2.diff.gz. I will recheck again, but the last version. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I checked all patches related to r8169 and bugfixes patches works perfectly, but I found the problem with the patches inside of debian/patches/features/all/r8169. I checked one by one, but i had issues on compilation still. So, I decided comment them and now works. I believe that the problem is that our r8169 module deblobbed is very different than linux vainilla, I believe that the problem is related about it. Those patches are features that could be adapted for r8169 for the linux vainilla that uses the blob. I send a diff with the differences.

I believe that if debian's r8169 patches generates conflicts with our deblob script is necessary remove debian patches related to this module to solve it, is it possible do it in this distro?
I think that r8169 module is very important to be enabled, due that the most of motherbords of the market use that module at the present (eg: all asus and asrock motherboards has this model version included via onboard).
If you will release a new revision of linux-libre with this module enabled, please let me know about it to install this distro on my friend's machine :)

If I recall correctly, that module (or Debian's patches for it) conflict with the deblob script I applied. I chose to disable it so I could release early. I did add comments to the code to remind me to reinvestigate at a later time (e.g. [1]). I suspect the remedy will involve editing some or all of Debian's r8169 patches.

Hi guys, i'm a parabola hacker and maintains linux-libre package with other hackers and we have r8169 module enabled in linux-libre kernel by default. my machine is using this module in Parabola. Now, I'm installing gnewsense 3 in the my friend's computer (similar than my machine), but i don't understand why r8169 module is disabled, this module is functional without the blob.
