Perhaps some addition is needed for the netif_set_link_up()/down() functions to do what is necessary for IPv6 addresses to be re-verified. After calling netif_set_link_up() some router solicitation messages go out but perhaps some neighbor discovery messages should also go out to verify the link-local and auto-configured addresses.
