Hello Steve,

This word really need kerning. As my observe, FreeSerif should make a very small adjustment to make alpha closer.

Hello Hsiing-yen,

I don't understand your remark.  I checked, and neither Serif normal nor italic has such an entry.  Then I made a test page with this word, and to my eye, it doesn't need kerning.  See attachment.

In the word Παν, there is an entry for kerning between pi and alpha.

The eta in italic has excessive space on the right side.
The combination of Alpha and theta deserves to be kerned.
Thanks!

Sorry, I don't know what you're referring to.
Please see the attached test files.

I have found this problem one day I used FreeSerif, and I found this problem looks more clearly when I turned italic face on.

Which face?

In the word Αθήνα, there's too much distance before Theta and Nu.

Hello Steve!

I know you still have to solve the double kerning issue, but I really had to point out this:

OMICRON+UPSILON WITH CIRCUMFLEX and CAPITAL ALPHA WITH ACUTE AND SMOOTH BREATHING+NU are badly kerned.

The space before and after Capital ALPHA looks a bit too wide to me.

In the word ῥητοροδιδάσκαλοι, isn't the first DELTA too close to the preceding OMICRON? Or is the second DELTA too far from ALPHA?

Let me know what you think about it.

OK, I know that, I was just wondering whether it's in your plans, that's it! No need to be in a hurry, you always think I'm asking fir hot fixes but it's not the case! :)

By the way, I don't find any particular flaws in the Greek range, you're been too harsh with yourself!

Bump I already kerned it, very roughly.

I explained to you offline why it hadn't been done.  Again: it takes time, nobody had asked for it, and my proofs didn't show many glaring problems (and, frankly, the Greek range of FreeSerif isn't that great anyway, especially the bold...)

To do kerning right takes me often several nights per face, and then I still find peculiarities.

And again, there is a serious kerning bug.

So as I said before, it would be best to hold off kerning for a while, until we understand what is causing the kerning-doubling bug.  It's really impossible to do good kerning under the present circumstances.

Bump! Do you plan to kern bold Greek? I don't mean to urge you to hurry up, I just want to know. Indeed, it's a big handicap, why didn't you do that in the first place? I mean, why Cyrillic bold is kerned and Greek bold not? Which has been your criterion?

May I ask you why it is not so and if you plan to kern it in the future?

Hi,

Yes, in bold, I reduced the right-side bearing of kappa, and both side bearings of gamma.

Note: currently Greek is not kerned in FreeSerifBold.

Also in the same image, to the left, there's too much space for me between GAMMA and OMICRON.

The distance between KAPPA and DELTA doesn't convince me at all, it's too wide for me.
