I changed the comments at the pin descriptions in revision 1256.

I agree - don't break user code (unnecessarily). So changing the description would be the preferable solution.

(I had the same problem as Ivan, but I didn't even realize it is a bug. I just assumed a made a mistake.)

Best regards,
Hannes

In principle, changing the comments will lead to the same, but, as you said, it is much more reasonable.

It is clear the numbers does not correspond to the description in the comments.

But if we change the numbers, anyone who uses ft232r right now with the correct connections (even if the description here is wrong) will complain then, because it does not work for him anymore.

So we better change the descriptions in the comments.

Any comments about this?

I've observed that description of ft232r programmer pinouts in avrdude.conf.in is wrong. It is

programmer
id = "ft232r";
desc = "FT232R Synchronous BitBang";
type = "ftdi_syncbb";
connection_type = usb;
miso = 1; # RxD
sck = 0; # RTS
mosi = 2; # TxD
reset = 4; # DTR
;

but should be

programmer
id = "ft232r";
desc = "FT232R Synchronous BitBang";
type = "ftdi_syncbb";
connection_type = usb;
miso = 1; # RxD
sck = 2; # RTS
mosi = 0; # TxD
reset = 4; # DTR
;

It's not so serious, but for me it took few hours to figure out, what's wrong
