Yes, sir.

I just wanted to inspect whether the generated image was correct by looking at the hexdump, and compression was getting in the way. (The problem was alignment, it turned out.)

I don't really care which way it gets resolved; I solved my original issue already. Though I imagine some may find uncompressed images useful.

Well, it's for debugging mostly. I was doing a port for fun, had GRUB built for i386-pc, and I was wondering why the image doesn't detect the embedded modules. The image size wasn't a problem for me because I loaded it through qemu -kernel anyway.

Do you complain about lack of warning or do you have reasons to not compress image on i386?

GRUB images built for the i386-pc platform are always compressed with LZMA, even when compression is explicitly disabled with a -Cnone switch. There isn't even a warning displayed.
