you're right, there's no protection against a corrupt .md5CheckSum file. That's already on my to-do list.

If you have such problems, it's an indication that maybe your file system is corrupt. You should check with fsck.

To check this failure directly, you can run 'bzip2 -t' on the .md5CheckSums.bz2 file. If this failes, delete .storeBackupLinks/backup.Finished inside the affected backup.

Hope this helps

Hi,

some days ago my .md5CheckSums.bz2 file got corrupted during the backup. The backup did not fail and had the "finished" flag set.

Both storeBackupUpdateBackup --autorepair and storeBackupDel --deleteNotFinishedDirs failed to detect the broken checksum file as well.

So storebackup tried to read the file during the next day's backup.  It extracted a handful of md5sums from the file, but again gave no indication that the file was corrupt.

Instead of stopping the backup when it encountered the corruption, it started to do a full backup of several hundred gigabytes.
