  The best choice is "formulas".

1) It does not use a letter outside the English alphabet

2) It respects the general rules for making plurals in English

3) It does not propagate bad decisions made centuries ago by people infected
(brainwashed) with Latin

4) It does not waste (steal) people's time

5) It does not cause an extra change in pronunciation.

People should stop using (forms of) loanwords, that are not integrated
into the used language.

An example from one of my patches is "indicies" (wrong spelling).  Such a
mistake is not possible when the plural of "index", "indexes", is used.

Stop propagating Latin-infected spellings of (loan)words.

+The @code{eqn} preprocessor allowed mathematical formulas to be specified

This is not a spelling error, though the use of the æ ligature is in my opinion a bit of an affectation.  More importantly, it invites character set/encoding problems.

"Formulae" is a valid plural for "formula" in standard English.
