Correction to what I wrote: mom example files are, in fact, processed during the build.  I responded too quickly last night and was thinking only of how the independent mom.tar.gz archives are set up.

Hi Peter,

your plan sounds great, thanks for checking.

I'm not very surprised that preconv(1) is usually able to detect the encoding heuristically, the preconv(1) manual page says as much below "Coding Tags".  Whether the guessing works or not may depend on a lot of things though, including the operating system, which locales it supports, whether uchardet is compiled in, and whatnot.  So, better safe than sorry...  :)

Yes, typsetting.mom also requires -k.  I'll fix that in README.txt. There are no reports that the absence of Coding Tags causes the files to process incorrectly, but in the spirit of crossing i's and dotting t's, I'll add them anyway.  And you're right, the files are installed without processing.

I'm not completely sure this report is valid; the file README.txt instructs the user to give the -k option to pdfmom(1) for letter.mom and mon_premier_doc.mom - maybe it should for typesetting.mom, too?  Maybe the files should also contain explicit Coding Tags as documented in the preconv(1) manual page?  I'm not sure, but probably Peter can figure that out without any effort.

I don't see any indication that these files are processed during the build.  It seems they are merely installed, without any processing.

Some files in "contrib/mom/examples" contain French encoded in UTF-8
and are processed by "groff".

The authors should correct their mistakes.
