Fixed in git, commit 925a1a11, by dying when there are extra arguments after the first file name.

To reproduce, build a nano with --disable-multibuffer.  Then run:

  src/nano NEWS README

Press ^X.  Notice that there was no warning about there being trailing stuff on the command line.

Expected behavior: a single-buffer version should warn where there is extra stuff on the command line after the filename.
