You might try a newer version of davfs2, e.g. 1.5.6. It will be able to handle situations where /etc/mtab is a symbolic link to a kernel file system and not writable.

# mount.davfs --version
davfs2 1.4.7  <http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/davfs2>

Whenever I use 'mount -t davfs', I get this warning on stderr:

/sbin/mount.davfs: Warning: can't write entry into mtab, but will mount the file system anyway

This is annoying in scripting, as I want only actual errors to be reported.

So I tried using 'mount --no-mtab -t davfs ...', but apparently, that option is not supported:

/sbin/mount.davfs: invalid option -- 'n'

Can --no-mtab / -n be implemented?
