It's OK now, I just made a stupid mistake.
The problem is fixed here as of CVS 5011 - many thanks.

No.

> but patch freezes

what do mean with that?
http://mldonkey.sourceforge.net/Windows#Install_Ocaml does not work?

wget http://caml.inria.fr/pub/distrib/ocaml-3.09/ocaml-3.09.1.tar.bz2
tar -xjvf ocaml-3.09.1.tar.bz2
cd ocaml
patch -p2 -E -i ../ocaml_unicode.patch

does the trick here without problems.

THanks - have been trying to patch ocaml (3.09.0 and 3.09.1, patch #4515) to this end but patch freezes and does nothing.  The core will be running in a non-ASCII locale and most of the affected filenames are Japanese so presumably Unicode is needed.  Is there a pre-patched version anywhere?

Patch #4979 fixed another related bug:
https://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitem&item_id=14540#comment5

Its in current CVS so you have to compile a core yourself.
Please test.

My userid contains no spaces.
The problem dirs are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

 shared_directories = [

     strategy = only_directory
     priority = 5

With
verbosity = share
there are messages like
[cSha] Sharing C:\path\to\problem\share prio 0
but never (as with the correctly shared dirs)
[cSha] Sharing sub-directory C:\path\to\problem\share\something
so it does seem these dirs are not being traversed.
(BTW enabling logging also seems to enable output to stdout - can crash the windoze terminal.  Also log_file_size is ignored.)

No, only network stuff and eg
2006/02/27 **:**:** [cF] best_name of "urn_ed2k_***" changed to "***"
2006/02/27 **:**:** [cF] best_name of "***" changed to "***"
2006/02/27 **:**:** [cCO] New downloading file - check complete
2006/02/27 **:**:** [EDK] send_new_shared: found master server ***.***.***.***:****
2006/02/27 **:**:** [EDK] Sending *** share(s) to server ***.***.***.***:****(***)
2006/02/27 **:**:** [EDK] send_new_shared: Sent *** new shared files to servers
- nothing directly related to traversing shared dirs.

Any messages in log_file? If not, please try verbosity "verb"

That's what I was hoping but the problem persists in 2.7.4 - 'Shared(575): 34.54G' (should be 60-70G)
1. It doesn't seem to matter
-whether files are opened (read-only) by another app;
-in what order the shares are listed in downloads.ini.
If a few files in the user-defined shares are removed, others that were missing are detected, so there seems to be a limit on the number of shared files.
2. I tried deleting shared_files.ini and shared_files_new.ini but no difference.
While hashing was in progress, the total share size was seen to decrease (from 44.1GB to 34.6 GB.)
3. It seems that the contents of several user shares with paths >=6 levels deep (more than the other shares) are missing entirely.
4. Files in ./incoming/files are detected correctly (regardless of path depth.)
Hope this is of use & thanks again.

In the next release 2.7.4 this patch will be used (already in CVS):

4849: EDK: Fix hashing of newly shared files
- avoid hashing shared files twice
- avoid problems while hashing big files
- remove obsolete compute_md4_delay option

This could help with your problem.

Although this looks identical to #14540 I am posting because:
-It is supposed to be fixed
-Windoze

At least since 2.7.1 and as of at least 2.7.3:
-Shared dirs ammount to >69GB but only 35.38GB of files are detected.
-Files that should be shared are missing froom the uploads list.

Some of the paths contain non-ASCII chars (but some of the missing files have all-ASCII paths, whereas some with non-ASCII paths are correctly shared.)

All shares are 'all_files'.

Thanks for all your work.
