Squeeze's release notes [1] say that the powerdev group is obsolete. Despite claims in network-manager-gnome's documentation [2] nm-applet works fine for me without being a member of the netdev group.

On the standard installs that I did on a Yeeloong in the past weeks the default user is no longer added to the netdev or powerdev groups. This was confirmed (for the netdev group) by quiliro [1].

I'll test this sometime this month.

I've just done a fresh install on my Yeeloong. The user was added to both the netdev and powerdev group:

$ egrep "netdev|powerdev" /etc/group
netdev:x:109:samgee
powerdev:x:114:samgee

The installer files on my usb stick are dated 2009-12-11.

User also isn't added to the "powerdev" group.

I can also confirm that this isn't a problem with the beta amd64 gNS 3 installer.

I can confirm this, most recently with the Dec 12th daily build of the yeeloong installer.

I was reported user is not always added to netdev group during install.

This has been confirmed NOT to happen on i386 or amd64.  Maybe it's specific to yeeloong installer.

Can someone confirm this?
