I should have answered this report long time ago...
I do see acceptable the requirement for adding some option to ./configure for some platforms.

It is pretty hard to have a configure script that works without options for ALL platforms and being very portable, it would be a nightmare if I were to handle all system/setup variation myself.

The most important is to be able to compile AND to have stable code!

I am trying to update the "libexosip" formula (package) for the Mac Homebrew project (http://brew.sh/). I've found that in order to make the build work, I have to add some extra flags to LDFLAGS when running the configure script, as described near the bottom of this third-party blog post: http://growingshoot.blogspot.com/2013/02/manually-install-osip-and-exosip-as.html

The fact that I have to add extra flags to LDFLAGS suggests a few possibilities: (1) this is a configure-script-usage error, which I would want to address; or (2) this is a bug in the exosip build scripts, which you would probably want to address.

The Homebrew project also has a ticket tracking this issue: https://github.com/Homebrew/homebrew/pull/39433
