OK I'm an idiot, there is a way you just need to go in the directory containing the "core"-named subdir and create a ".arch-inventory" file containing this single line:

source core

Then you should "tla add" all the files residing inside, since they were (silently ?) skipped on previous addings

This silly "clearly-not-a-bug" could be deleted

In fact this is more an enhancement request than a real bug (in fact is has been designed to do just that) but as I didn't found a way to differentiate a file and a directory named core, to act differently upon them. Ignoring core files but not core directories would be a saner default behaviour.

This is even worse than I first thought, because it prevents tla import (which exits with the same error message as tree-lint)

This should default to be a warning at most, IMHO.

a lot of projects use directories named "core" and those should not violate default naming conventions as they are not core files of crashed programs but directory containing source files for the "core" of the project.

--------------------REPRODUCE---------------------
# mkdir core
# tla add core
# tla tree-lint
These files violate naming conventions:

core
