You mean you're unable to kill it?

If it successfully is killed, there can't possibly be a memory leak.  It's not around anymore to own any memory. ;)

Perhaps more to the point:  why are you kill -9 ing it in the first place?  It should exit cleanly on a kill.

If that plugin is being such a hog, and you have a pentium 4, I suspect denormal issues.  Is everything (ie that plugin and om) build with -mfpmath=sse?

Further tracked down the issue to the LADSPA Formant plugin from Omins... This thing is not only a Hog, this thing is a HOG. It sounds great, but eats 35% CPU power on my 2GHz Pentium 4.

There is a Formant plugin in ZynAddSubFX that eats about 4%. (rough estimate)

Further investigation has revealed the slowdowns were due to loading a patch created by yours truly. It is attached.

After several times (about 10) of killing om with killall -9 through a startup/shutdown script the computer started behaving like a Pentium/100 running Windows XP.

I assume the cause is killing OM by sigkill.
