I wasted 10 minutes today trying to figure out why my merge was doing nothing - it turned out to be a single character typo in a very long branch name.

IMHO cvs should tell you that there's no such tag, just like it already does when you do cvs up -r branchname and branchname doesn't exist.

I'm running cvs 1.12.12 client.  Don't know what's on the server.
