Due to the lack of information I am closing this bug as "cannot reproduce". If there are more details on this issue - feel free to reopen or create another one.

There is no way we can fix this bug without more info, if there are no more details - bug should be closed.

Mind that hubs send all $Search requests to the client. For the hubs with lots of active clients this probably can influence CPU load. What is your CPU? How many files are shared? How much bandwidth is used? What are the hub addresses? Any error messages in the logs?
Anyway I think this is a different issue and better discussed separately.

yes, i can confirm such behaviour. i'm on Debian testing @ 2.6.32 and using version 3.0.2 (self-built), but also tried mldonkey-server 3.0.1 (from Debian repos) - the same.
the problem is: i currently have about 17G shared. when i run mlnet without any networks, all is fine. when i enable DC nework, all is fine again (i've already hashed shares for DC). but when i connect to one hub - it begins to eat about 15-20% of cpu. if i connect to 5 or more hubs - it eats all available cpu and thus, of course, works sloooowly. it also eats some memory, but there are no such critical amounts. at that time i'm only connected to hubs, i do no searches/up/downloads/chat/anything. i've disabled auto-rescanning, minimized number of open slots - no results

I have the same trouble. Mlnet is very slow, so i can't access it using web, telnet or something other. FreeBSD 7.0, MLD 2.9.2, x86_32, 2 gb ram, load averages: 2.18, 1.86, 1.45 (!).

How many files do you share?
Which value has option share_scan_interval?

I am seeing this with 2.9.2 (using ATrpms packages under CentOS 5).

The performance problems might also be related to ineffective
usage of the GeoIP database. In current CVS are some patches
dealing with this. Please compile a fresh CVS checkout and
test if the problem still exists.

Hope that helps... I won't be able to get back to this untill the weekend though.  I'm sorry if I'm a little delayed in responding, my life doesn't revolve around whether I get this thing working or not. =)  It does seem more responsive now though, but it's downloading at a very slow rate(0.1kpbs) so ... it's not being very usefull atm. :P  I do appreciate the effort though.

The only other thing I can figure, is maybe the ports aren't configured correctly in my router?  Or maybe I didn't compile something in my kernel correctly, but it feels more like a bug than anything.

Well, I tried the patch and updated to 2.8.5 but it still hangs.  I tried the pre-compiled version this time to try and rule out anything I may have done wrong while compiling it.  I remember 2.7.x worked fine with some older kernel, I forget, 2.6.12-13 or so... So I don't know what changes you may have made since then, or if it has something to do with changes in the kernel not meshing well with mldonkey.  It works fine if I remove everything from the incoming folder, but as soon as I get about 10 some odd downloads it chokes up again.

Very weird: when I last checked, my system acted as it should. I cannot reproduce the '100% in use' bug anymore. Maybe it had something to do with some externals like GeoIP, but that's just a guess.

Good luck with resolving this issue.

I can't seem to fix it in the same way you suggest.  I can stop the mlnet daemon and then it runs normal for at least half an hour... but then returns always to using 100% CPU and running very very slow to the point of uselessness.  I really like this program but I'm going to have to switch until this issue is resolved.  I have tried recompiling to the latest CVS in hopes this problem has been resolved but it seems it hasn't.

Same problem here. It can easily be reproduced by clicking on the downloading item for details in the webinterface. The system will instantly jump to 100% cpu. Shutting down de interface, thus aborting the request, results in going back to a normal 10% cpu (or lower).

My system:
---------------------
MLDonkey version: mldonkey-2.8.3.static.i386-Linux_glibc-2.3.2.tar.bz2
OS: Linux
Kernel: 2.6.8-3-686

I hope I'm doing this right, I've never submitted a bug report before.  I was suggested I post this from this link from the forum:

http://mldonkey.sourceforge.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=25216#25216

I have generated a gprof.txt which can be downloaded from here:

http://h1.ripside.net/xpyrate/gprof.txt
http://us.share.geocities.com/rush830/gprof.txt

The files were too big to be uploaded to this site.

The problem is mldonkey takes 100% CPU usage and responds very slowly to commands with either the web interface or with telnet.  I have tried some things but I think the thread in the forum details it better.

My system specs:
Slackware 11.0 Kernel 2.6.19.1
Dual CPU P3 1.4GHz Tualatin Core
Tyan Tiger 230T S2507T
1 GB SDRAM
