it is a bug if my ally decides to fight me and my units don't counter this instantly. please don't downgrade bugs. that's no way of getting rid of them.

Or perhaps for beta4, a "xxxx has requested an alliance. Do you accept?" type of dialog?

an alliance decision should be considered an offer as long as the other didn't return it. having 20 warriors in the allied base will cause severe damage if turned to hostile if the allied team does not fight back until the player canceled the alliance, too.

so my wished behavior would be:
teams are hostile as long as any team is not allied.
