The GEDCOM 6.0 specification defines the ID attribute as follow:
"Id A unique alphanumeric value used to identify and link records. This value must be unique across all records of all types within an XML file."

Therefore alphanumeric IDs are valid.

According to GEDCOM 6.0 XML DTD, the IDs shall be numeric; at the moment the IDs are alphanumeric.
