POSSIBLE PROBLEM (some of what is described below may be features)
macro let*mt-sign, called by SG (signature) under MT 5 (external letter)

example 1 - single author, no reference data
when author name only (no reference data, only 1 argument),
		e.g.,
		.AU "John 1 Rupley"
get lead dashes at left margin "--" in signature line

example 2 - 2 (or more) authors, no reference data
		.AU "John 1 Rupley"
		.AU "John 2 Rupley"
"--/" at left margin for (1st or) last author

example 3 - two authors, with reference data (2 or more args)
		.AU "John 1 Rupley" "jar1"
.AU "John 2 Rupley" "jar2" "Biosci." "Biochem. Mol. Biophys."
reference data at left margin has arg 2 replicated:
				"jar2/jar2"
			more authors give more replicates

DEMONSTRATION
	run this file through formatter
file is set up for example 1 above
for other examples, reset .ig -- .. pairs

REVISION
see macro, following line ca. 73:
		.\" SUGGESTED MODIFICATION OF MACRO

NOTE
I realize that there is no universally accepted signature style.
However, the default should be clean for the simplest possibility - a
single author name with no reference data to be printed.

That said, this "bug", if it is one, is minor.
