newsAnarchist Package System - News: APS started!

Is this not over complicated? (posted by CiarĂ¡n O Riordan, Sat 14 Dec 2002 07:15:40 AM UTC)

I'm really glad to see GNU get it's own packaging system but
writing new Hurd servers seems a bit over the top.  I use
and like the Hurd but what's wrong with 'apt' that can't be
fixed?

If apt distributed diffs to the Packages file and supported
binary diffs for packages, it would kick (more) ass.

Another thing that could be improved about the Debian system
would be a standarisation of packaging, ie every package
would have:

package-0.1.deb
package-refdocs-0.1.deb /* mostly manpages */
package-manual-0.1.deb  /* info pages, html docs */
package-dev-0.1.deb /* libraries ect. */

What's to gain by making APS Hurd-specific?
Any more info on Stallmans original proposal?

Thanks for any info, I'm on the mailing list but didn't
want to clutter it up.
