0.9.22: autoconf "./configure; make" system

Item posted by John F. Gibson <gibson17> on Thu 16 Feb 2006 10:14:13 PM UTC.

Version 0.9.22 represents several major changes in channelflow's software organization: (1) a new "./configure; make; make install" system using GNU autoconf and automake, (2) restructuring of the package directories, and (3) a switch from CVS hosted on savannah to Subversion hosted at Georgia Tech.

The impact on users is (a) channelflow is much easier to compile, install, and compile against, (b) channelflow is much more robust to differences in operating environment (compiler, system libraries, operating system) (c) include statements in channellow programs will have to be switched to the form #include "channelflow/dns.h", (d) code on the savannah CVS is now obsolete.

I will get a site up at Georgia Tech as soon as possible (weeks, probably). In the meantime, I will continue uploading tarballs to the savannah download-files page.

The lack of an autoconf system, particularly automated testing, was the main thing holding me back from issuing a 1.0 release. Now we're getting very close.

John
