SGE 0.20 Released

Item posted by Julie Marchant <onpon4> on Wed 26 Aug 2015 05:38:34 PM UTC.

It's been a while since a new version of the SGE has been released! A new one is now available; most of the improvements within were made possible by the ongoing development of ReTux:

  • A new feature called "object areas" has been introduced. Basically, object areas cause all objects in the room to be grouped by their position, making it possible to find all objects in a certain location much faster. This type of system has been used in collision detection code for a long time, but it's now possible to use it elsewhere as well.
  • "Inactive" events have been removed. This was done so that a certain loop over all objects in the room could be skipped for inactive objects.
  • It's now specified that if two objects share the same Z-axis value, the most recently created ones are in front.
  • Support for screen blending has been added to the Pygame SGE. It's slow, because I implemented it with get_at() and set_at() calls rather than surfarrays (because I couldn't figure out how to use the latter), but it's better than nothing.
  • Several bugs in the Pygame SGE have been fixed.
