An updated release of the v0.3 code branch and the Waste's Edge demo game, providing new languages and some enhancements:
All binaries ship with up-to-date versions of the included 3rd party libraries. In addition, the Linux binary now supports both X11 and Wayland, while the macOS application is sandboxed.
Both source code and binaries can be downloaded from the usual place.
Enjoy!
An updated release of the v0.3 code branch and the Waste's Edge demo game is now available, including the following new features and changes:
Apart from the source tarballs, binary builds for Linux (64bit), MacOS X (32bit PPC, 64bit Intel) and Windows (32 and 64bit) are available as well.
Enjoy!
Due to the many shortcomings of CVS, and in order to future-proof the Adonthell source code, most of the contents are now available via git. The following list details where to find recent copies of the various CVS modules.

website

After being hosted for more than 10 years by the folks at Linuxgames.com, the Adonthell website fell victim to their rigorous server cleanup. So it's time to say thanks for the great service and publicity we had while being your guests!
Taking the opportunity, we've also shed years of accumulated cruft from the site and are now happy to present it in its former glory here at GNU Savannah.
The Adonthell Documentation Wiki is unaffected and still available at Berlios.
We're happy to announce the next installment in our series of alpha
versions of Adonthell - Dun Barethsol. Source code for all platforms
and binaries for MacOS X and (in a few days) Windows can be retrieved
from http://adonthell.linuxgames.com/download/preview.shtml
On top of the previous release, this one adds an NPC with a simple
schedule and a dialogue containing information about the project.
There are the usual bug fixes and compatibility improvements, like
support for GCC 4.4 and (still highly experimental) the upcoming SDL
1.3.
Now that we've nearly recreated all the features we had in Adonthell
v0.3, the next steps will include porting Waste's Edge over to the new
engine. Our roadmap has more details about the path forward. It can be
found at http://adonthell.berlios.de/doc/index.php/Tasks:Road_Map

On top of the previous release, this one adds improved collision detection by utilizing 3D models and algorithms internally. Some bugs have been squashed too and compatibility with different platforms has been improved.
With most of the map engine development out of the way, we can now concentrate on the GUI and map editing tools. Our roadmap has more details about the path forward. It can be found at http://adonthell.berlios.de/doc/index.php/Tasks:Road_Map

We're happy to announce the release of a minimal, alpha version of Adonthell - Dun Barethsol. Source code for all platforms and binaries for MacOS X and Windows can be retrieved from http://adonthell.linuxgames.com/download/preview.shtml
This is not a full release of the the long-awaited v0.4. We're still working at that, though we are closer now than we have ever been. This release is targeted specifically at artists and developers who might be interested in joining our efforts. As such, it is a demonstration of some of the basic map and movement behaviors to be included in the final version. It is also intended to highlight some of the work that is still needs to be done, including improved collision detection. We have a roadmap laying out our path forward. It can be found at http://adonthell.berlios.de/doc/index.php/Tasks:Road_Map

This is a maintenance release of the 0.3 branch of Adonthell serving two purposes:
[1] Get translations of the Waste's Edge demo game into several languages working
[2] Renew interest into the project to attract more active developers for the work on the next incarnation of the engine and accompanying demo game.
In order to accomplish [1], support for true type fonts and utf-8 text format has been added. Some bugs that remained in 0.3.3 have also been fixed.
To help with [2], documentation was written and a list of TODOs has been compiled:

So if you enjoy a somewhat renewed Adonthell - Waste's Edge consider helping us to make the next release even better.
