Version 2.0.0 of avr-libc has been released.
The main reason for the version jump was that support for
GCC 5+ has been added, which uses a different mulitilib
layout.
Apart from that, there are numerous small changes and bugfixes
that went into the tree since the previous release 1.5 years
ago.
Well, it's been more than 2.5 years since the previous release.
Many people contributed to avr-libc lately, so even though I
didn't have the time for a thorough sweep over the bug
database, I decided to finally roll a new release.
Please have a look at the NEWS file for a summary of all those
things that have been done.
avr-libc-1.7.1 has been released on 2011-02-16.
This is primarily a bugfix release, and particularly, it fixes the infamous delay.h bug that caused the delay algorithm to be way off (https://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?30363).
avr-libc 1.6.8 was released on February 11, 2010. Packages can be downloaded from the Download area.
Yes, there were other releases between the last News item and this one. We're just a bit slow on updating the News.
avr-libc 1.6.4 was released on November 6, 2008. Packages can be downloaded from the Download area.
Two new versions of avr-libc have been released.
1.4.7 is the current version from the stable line. Please see the NEWS file at
http://www.nongnu.org/avr-libc/NEWS.txt
for a detailed list of changes since version 1.4.6.
So please test it, folks! By its time, the code base that can be seen there will eventually become release 1.6.0, forming a new stable release line.
avr-libc-1.4.6 has been released. For a list of changes, see
the NEWS file:
http://www.nongnu.org/avr-libc/NEWS.txt
Source code and documentation downloads can be found in the
avr-libc download area:
http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/avr-libc/
A binary release can be obtained here:
http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/avr/
Note that binary releases are independent of the host operating
system and CPU type.
I released avr-libc 1.4.4 yesterday. A number of bug fixes have been
applied since the previous release, some new devices are now
supported, so another release was due anyway. Coincidentally :), Eric
Weddington was also interested in a new release so he could include it
into a new WinAVR version.

Only 10 days after the previous release, I'm happy to announce
yet another release of avr-libc. The major reason for a quick
followup is to allow for distribution maintainers to pick up
the most recent changes as early as possible.
This is a bugfix-only release. See the NEWS file at:
http://www.nongnu.org/avr-libc/NEWS.txt
for a list of recent changes.
The most notable bug fixed is the ability to use the EEPROM
library functions for any of the supported AVR devices now.
Previously, there had been an ever growing list of devices
(starting with the ATmega169) where the EEPROM library did
not work.
The files can be obtained from the download area.
For updated documentation, go to the project's home page, and
follow the respective links.
Many thanks to Björn Haase for providing this bug fix that was
"turn-key style", as well as for all the active developers on
the avr-libc developer's mailing list who gave Björn feedback
so he could improve the patch quickly.
This is a bugfix-only release. See the NEWS file at:
http://www.nongnu.org/avr-libc/NEWS.txt
for a list of recent changes.
The most notable bug fixed is the ability to build using stock
binutils-2.16 without any changes in the code now.
The files can be obtained from the download area.
For updated documentation, go to the project's home page, and
follow the respective links.
Thanks again to our new team member Anatoly Sokolov for all
his contributions, as well as to anyone else contributing to
the success of this release.
We are pleased to announce that Anatoly Sokolov (savannah username
aesok) recently joined the avr-libc developers team.
Anatoly has been submitting a good number of patches and
enhancements in the past, and is now actively maintaining
all these supposedly tiny but important items directly in the
CVS tree.
We much enjoy another pair of helping hands!
This is a bugfix-only release. See the NEWS file at:
http://www.nongnu.org/avr-libc/NEWS.txt
for a list of recent changes.
The files can be obtained from the download area.
For updated documentation, go to the project's home page, and
follow the respective links.
Version 1.2.1 of avr-libc has been released.
This is a bugfix-mostly release. See the NEWS file at:
http://www.nongnu.org/avr-libc/NEWS.txt
for a list of recent changes.
The only added feature is the %S printf format specification
that allows processing ROM-based strings as printf arguments.
The files can be obtained from the download area.
For updated documentation, go to the project's home page, and
follow the respective links.
We are pleased to announce the first member of the 1.2 line of releases
in avr-libc.
The bump in the minor number indicates a ``new technology'' release.
The files can be obtained from the download area as usual. New in this
release is the option to supply Unix-style manual pages which are
generated automatically as part of the documentation.
For an outline of the major changes between the 1.0 and 1.2 lines of
release, see
http://www.nongnu.org/avr-libc/changes-1.2.html
My special thanks go to Theodore Roth who has been maintaining this
project for many years until he was recently forced to step back due to
health problems, and to Eric Weddington for his invaluable contributions.
Version 1.0.5 of avr-libc has just been released, and can be downloaded
from
http://savannah.nongnu.org/download/avr-libc/
For a list of changes since the last 1.0.4 release, see the NEWS file:
http://www.nongnu.org/avr-libc/NEWS.txt
Note that this is merely a bug-fix release in the 1.0 version line (and
probably the last one in that line). A 1.2.0 release is planned to be
rolled anytime soon.
We regret to announce that Theodore Roth, long-standing principal admin and main contributor of the project, had to leave the avr-libc project (and many other AVR-related opensource projects) due to some health issues that require drastically reducing his workload.
We'd like to thank Ted for his valuable work in the past and dedication shown to improve the opensource toolchain for AVR microcontrollers. We wouldn't be were we are right now without him, and hope to be able to welcome him back some day!
Avr-libc 1.0.4 has been released. See the NEWS and ChangeLog files in the source for specific details on the changes made since the 1.0.3 release.
Avr-libc 1.0.2 has been released. See the NEWS and ChangeLog files in the source for specific details on the changes made since the 1.0.1 release.
Avr-libc 1.0.1 has been released. See the NEWS and ChangeLog files in the source for specific details on the changes made since the 1.0 release.
This is the first official, stable release of avr-libc in more than a year. We will make point releases (1.0.x) as needed to fix bugs and add minor features which will not break existing user applications based on the library.
For more information on what is new in this release, please read the NEWS file in the distribution.
See the README file for binutils and gcc requirements.
As always, follow the links at <http://www.nongnu.org/avr-libc/> to get the source tarballs.
Enjoy.
