LordsAWar! now runs on Microsoft Windows!
It's been a long-standing goal to make LordsAWar! run on windows, and finally it's happened, mostly thanks to the MINGW (Minimalist GNU on Windows) project, and Fedora for packaging windows gtkmm libraries. It's finally happened, 9 years after this project started.
Technically there were three kinds of windows-related bugs to overcome: 1. slashes and paths, 2. opening files as binary, and 3. can't delete open files. For more information on this, see http://benasselstine.livejournal.com/11452.html .
In the git repository, there is a file called WINDOWS that details how you can cross-compile the codebase for windows. The instructions culiminate in the creation of a .zip file (we're not using an installer yet) that contains the DLLS, the game data, and the executables.
Unfortunately sound does not work in the windows version, yet. But I think most people turn off the sound anyway.
Look for the windows zip file to appear on website: http://www.lordsawar.com .
I sincerely hope this brings more users to the LordsAWar! community.
At long last the drawing routines have been converted to Cairo. Stay tuned for a new release.
LordsAWar! version 0.2.0, a clone of the turn-based strategy game Warlords II, has been released with the following changes:
Fixed various gameplay bugs:
Lots of progress is being made in making LordsAWar playable over the network.
Here are two videos showing the progress:
http://tinyvid.tv/show/3nypdl90hiba
http://tinyvid.tv/show/7sr8ps2poft2
The videos show computer players sending the events over the network, that subsequently get displayed on the host's screen. (The computer players in this case don't have a screen of their own).
There is still a lot more work to do, but thanks to these industrious computer players, most of the network interactions are already tested.
Also you can see that there's a fancy new tileset. It was created by David Baumgart specifically for this project.
Packagers of LordsAWar will be interested to know that the deprecated gnet library has been expunged from the codebase, and replaced with gio calls.
If you'd like to help test network play before the release of version 0.2.0, just send me a message by clicking on the link below:

Thanks to the Savannah folks, the lordsawar subversion repository has been migrated to the Savannah servers.
The subversion server located at lordsawar.com has been disabled. Please recheckout your source trees.
David Baumgart has taken a slightly more painterly direction in his efforts to make a new default set of terrain tiles for the game.
You can see his latest efforts here:

I think this tileset is really starting to look great.
The 1, 2, and 3 numerals on the graphics are different ways of drawing forest. I like number 2 the best. If you have an opinion on the forest or any other part of the tileset, let me know by mailing me at benasselstine@gmail.com. Now is the time for feedback!
Hi folks,
A pixel artist named David Baumgart is making some terrain artwork for the lordsawar project! I've given him some art direction on how it should look, and here's what he's done so far:

I want to hear from you! How do you like this direction? I plan on making this tileset the default tileset in the game. Please provide your feedback to benasselstine@gmail.com.

This version took a long time because of the substantial rewrite of the drawing subsystem. Under the hood the graphics are now drawn with gtk, instead of SDL.
The 0.1.5 tarball has landed and consists of bug fixes and improvements in translations. Packages for Debian, Ubuntu and Red Hat will follow.
