Hi everybody,
I hope that someone noticed the checkerchris-release. We did not made any tarbals or packages, we didn't even tagged it in SVN, just decided not to make any changes to the checkerchris-branch.
Sorry for this mass, we do not have any time nor power left to take care about MuGLIn now (leaving exams are terrible time consuming:( )
As we do not need to be in time any more, we will make releases when they are ready. That's why we decide to give checkerchris the version number 0.10, because it is miles away to be mature.
I apologize for any false hope we made.
It is not fixed yet, but we will most likely rewrite MuGLIn from scratch and implement it in C or C++.
As MuGLIn is high modular, we could start rewriting the cores, and then individual modules.
As Gurni and I are attending an europe-tour (InterRail), we won't be available from 29th June until an open end, but most likely the 21st July.
In this time, Alexander Zimmermann (zmann) is going to take care about MuGLIn.
We'd like to welcome him here!
Another friend of mine will also join in the next time to support zmann.
We own a channel called #muglin on irc.freenode.net, but we are rarely there, so if you want to chat with us, please feel free to contact us on Twitter or per mail.
Sorry for this inconvinience, but we do not have many visitors there, so it is not worth the time.
First, I'd like to excuse myself and Gurni for the silence in the past weeks. We have had lots to do for school, about 1-2 exams and 2-3 presentations a week. As if this weren't enough, we have our final exam in about three weeks and some exams and presentations left.
We tried to work as much as possible on MuGLIn and there is progress (as you can see in SVN) but we didn't have time to write news or tweets. We also moved from SF here, which was also unnecessary more work.
The date for the hand-over is on 13th of April, so we will try to do as much as possible this weekend and release Version 0.10.0.0, "Checkerchris". This release, containing all main features we mentioned in our specification, should be quite usable. We may release some important fixes in the next days if we get some feedback from you. But then, we are going to suspend the development until we get back from our Europa trip, on 21st July. Afterwards, we will continue the development and release a feature plan for the next version.
In between, we are hiring a developer, who should fix major bugs and maybe do some code reviews. He may get also a project admin, I will announce this on monday after we sorted some things out.
So what happened the last few weeks?
I (srdj_mark) did some hacking about MuGLIn and MS WDS interoperability and made it to boot a WDS discovery image from our development MuGLIn server. I will publish a howto that will ease the switching from WDS to MuGLIn. I'd like to say here, that we still do NOT support MS Windows as target, so you may need to wait a while before you can really change to MuGLIn
We have now a quite nice testing environment with about 20 PCs with very different hardware (from PII, ~300MHz to some C2D). And we may get some students as testers there, because we training room in our school. Another positive aspect is that we have an enormous challenge there, because we need lots of software and a special configuration there.
