Ok, commited with LWIP_NETIF_HOSTNAME (because this field can also be used by snmp_set_sysname).

Kieran, I propose to integrate that in CVS, with a define named LWIP_NETIF_HOSTNAME. Ok for you?

Ok, patch is attach. Perhaps you will prefer a better name than LWIP_DHCP_HOSTNAME. Something like LWIP_NETIF_HOSTNAME ?

Tell me.

opt.h, netif.h, dhcp.h, dhcp.c: New configuration option LWIP_DHCP_HOSTNAME allow to define a hostname in netif struct (this is just a pointer, so, you can use a hardcoded string, point on one of your's ethernetif field, or alloc a string you will free yourself). It will be used by DHCP to register a client hostname.

Agreed.

As there seems to be some interest in this, would anyone like to submit a patch to this effect?

This is the original message :

"This adds in a system of allowing the user to set the HOSTNAME for DHCP

Add into you options
#define LWIP_DHCP_HOSTNAME          "IP500"
#define LWIP_DHCP_HOSTNAME_LENGTH   5

If you do not need this then set LWIP_DHCP_HOSTNAME_LENGTH to 0 or just leave it out.

Best Regards

Julian Gardner"
