Known bug which only affects platforms with O_BINARY, and has been discussed on the list in the past - basically, freopen needs to choose between "wb" and "ab" depending on whether stdout is already in append mode. The official cygwin distro of coreutils has a patch that works around this, but I haven't yet cleaned it up enough to push upstream. So, in the meantime, wait for me to make the official cygwin of coreutils 7.5 rather than trying to build out of the box.
