That looks like you modified configure.in but didn't run all the required auto* tools to regenerate everything.

Try checking out the current CVS code from http://savannah.nongnu.org/cvs/?group=spamass-milt , then run ./autogen.sh and see if the error persists.

I get the following error during ./configure:
