Have you been able to resolve this? I am having the exact same problem, only for a mips architecture. It would be great to know how you were able to overcome this.

I am trying to cross compile the libunwind-1.0 for my PowerPC platform. I used the following for configure:
./configure CFLAGS="-g -O2 -m64" CXXFLAGS="-g -O2 -m64" CC="$MY_PPC_ROOT/gcc/c4.2.1-p0/bin/powerpc-linux-gcc" --host=powerpc

Then I get the following error:
libtool: link: ../gcc/c4.2.1-p0/i686-pc-linux/bin/powerpc-linux-gcc -g -O2 -m64 -fexceptions -Wall -Wsign-compare -o Gperf-simple Gperf-simple.o ../src/.libs/libunwind-ppc64.a ../libunwind-1.0/src/.libs/libunwind.a -lgcc -lc
../src/.libs/libunwind-ppc64.a(elf64.o): In function `_Uelf64_get_proc_name':
../libunwind-1.0/src/elfxx.c:153: undefined reference to `_Uppc64_get_elf_image'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make-3.79.1-p7[1]: *** [Gperf-simple] Error 1
make-3.79.1-p7[1]: Leaving directory `../libunwind-1.0/tests'
make-3.79.1-p7: *** [all-recursive] Error 1

Appreciate any pointers.
