We don't have the resources to compile a hardware database ourselves. It is my hope that more people will contribute to the h-node [1] database. There is at least 1 entry of a USB wifi device that works with gNewSense (2.3 even). The kernel of gNS 3 has modules for ar9170, ath5k, ath9k and others. You can get more devices working if you install one of jxself's kernels [2]. But as far as I know, he and the GNU Linux-libre project don't keep a hardware database either.
