Referring to your email:

"/mount -t davfs -o user=markus,password=xxxx(xxxx http://xxxxxx.de/webdav /mnt/point"

Davfs2 does not know of a commandline option 'password' and the option 'user' has quite a different meaning. Please use the original documentation (man mount.davfs, man davfs2.conf, README, INSTALL) instead of outdated HowTos, Tipps and Tricks found somewhere in the internet.

"Could not authenticate to server: rejected Basic challenge"
The server does not recognize your username and/or password. You can add option 'debug secrets' to your davfs2.conf. davfs2 will then write log entries into one of your log files that show the username and password as davffs2 got it from your secrets file.
If they are not correct you may check your secrets file. If they are correct: are you sure you use the correct credentials as expected by the server?

Cheers
Werner

No error message of davfs2 contains the phrase 'syntax error'. Please always report the full and unchanged error messages from davfs2.

Maybe you mean message 'malformed line' (German: 'Syntaxfehler in der Zeile'). This message prints the line number where the error occurs. Did you check this number and identifiy the line with the error?

There is no need to quote or escape the '('-character. It has no special meaning in davfs2.conf or in secrets.

What characters have to be escaped and how is described at the beginning of the secrets file as well as in 'man davfs2.conf'.

Cheers
Werner
