I am the original poster. Just for your info, I have tried this alternate davfs driver (also fuse based), and it works fine. I can cd, ls, cp and all that, without any crazy network trafic in the background bringing my lan to its knees.

If you need some extra info to help you debug this I will gladly provide it, and do all the needed testing.

Hello.

I am new to whole davfs2 thing, and this is my first post here, so please, forgive me if there's something simple I am missing, but I feel this should work better than it does.

I need davfs2 to access a self-hosted instance of owncloud, at aruba.it.

So far, the setup stage went good, and finally I was able to mount the remote dav using davfs2 in Gentoo. I then cp'ed some files and directories (a few tenths of megabytes, nothing really big by nowadays standards).

I rebooted to complete a kernel upgrade, and re-mounted the dav again (I have the davfs2 line in fstab, so just "mount /home/i92guboj/dav" got the job done).

Now, when I do "cd ~/dav" the prompt doesn't return back like in 40 minutes or so, and while it is busy I can see very high network trafic in gkrellm (or iptraf, ntop,... whatever else).

After that I tried ls, but I got bored and finally halted the system before it completed, so I don't know whether it would have taken another 40 minutes or 40 hours.

I guess this is not the way it should work, but I can't know for sure if the problem is in aruba.it or if there's something I can tune up in davfs2 to make this work again.

I remember that, just after copying the files, I tried some basic command line surfing in this fs, and it worked just fine. The problem came later.

Any idea on where to look to debug this?

Thank you :)
