Thank you so much! Those 5-10 seconds sure are crucial. I am very very grateful for your help.

Ran into this same problem.  I live in Canada and their player on "www.cbc.ca/video" doesn't work under Linux (even with the latest flash the player window always remains blank).

Anyway, one of the site specific shows had the current episode embedded right into it, and clicking on it worked, so I snagged the packets and figured out how to extract the correct options.

1 - Right click on the video selector thumbnail under "www.cbc.ca/video" and copy the link (e.g., "javascript:CBC.APP.UberPlayer.playRelease('http://release.theplatform.com/content.select?pid=...")

2 - Paste the "http://release.theplatform.com/content.select?pid=..." bit in a new window (you only need up to the end of the pid)

3 - You will get an XML document that has a "<url>rtmp://cp37429.edgefcs.net/...<break>netstorage/....flv<url/> component in it

4 - Quickly run (you only have 5-10s before the url expires)

flvstreamer -y <PLAYPATH> -r <URL> -o <FILE>

where <PLAYPATH> is the bit after <break> minus the ".flv" extension from the url component, <URL> is the bit before the <break> from the url component, and <FILE> is whatever you want to save the stream as.

I live in Canada, so the proxy won't be a problem for me. But every time I try to use flvstreamer, it can't connect. I will post the verbose -x messages shortly.

You will have problems getting that rtmp url to work. FMS is usually setup to expire the auth string after a very short while. Also you'd need a socks proxy - web proxy not supported by flvstreamer (yet).

Er- and by "videofenced", I mean geofenced.

I am having difficulty using flvstreamer to stream videos from the <a href="http://cbc.ca/video">CBC Video website</a>. The site uses Akamai to host video, and the information about the videos' location is provided by XML files such as the one found at:

http://release.theplatform.com/content.select?pid=m_gZCj7Af8J4PxTnaiWv5LhBiMqC8ndL&UserName=Unknown&Embedded=True&Portal=All%20Content&Tracking=True

Most videos are videofenced. Is there anyone in Canada (or who can use a Canadian proxy server) that could help me parse this properly. The url provided by the XML file above is

rtmp://cp37429.edgefcs.net/ondemand/?auth=daFdTapatbXcucKbobPbxdAaDdkbvcPcNbO-bk5tE1-T-qkq_Lrw0ulIpBBw&aifp=v0001&slist=netstorage<break>netstorage/Rick_Mercer_Report-2009-09-29a.flv
