'because the server seems to be mounted in read-only mode'
That's not very helpful. It is your conclusion from evidence you don't bother to tell me. What am I supposed to make of this?

  • Is it mounted read only (ro)? Use command 'mount' without any parameters or 'cat /proc/mounts' to get a list of mounted file systems. It will show.
  • What happens? Use a most simple command line tool to create a new file on the davfs2 file system (e.g. 'echo "foo" > /mnt/NAS/bar'). Tell me exactly what happens (just copy the command and all of the output including any error message).
  • Please look into the lost+found directory of the davfs2 file system. If the files you copied to the server ended up there, this is most probably a problem in the communication with the server. (You may try option 'if_match_bug 1' in this case.)
  • You have admin access to the server: search the log files of the WebDAV server for any messages related to copying files to the server. This are mainly PUT and LOCK requests.

Well, your version of davfs2 would be nice too ('mount.davfs -V)

I have a Synology DiskStation DS110j with webDAV enabled. I mounted this server to a directory on my local pc by entering the following command in the terminal of Ubuntu 10.04:

sudo mount.davfs 'http://AddressToMyWebDAVServer:portnumber' /mnt/NAS

When it asks my username and password to login to the server, I enter those credentials correctly. The mounting of the webDAV server is then completed succesfully. I can browse my webDAV server by going to the local directory I mounted the server to. However, if I want to copy files and/or folders from my local pc to the webDAV server, I cannot do so because the server seems to be mounted in read-only mode. Because I have logged into the webDAV server using the admin account, I know for sure that I have read-write privileges for all folders on the server and therefore the copying of files from my local pc to the server should work.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
