Hi,

I saw your point long time ago. ;-) I didn't know either if it is possible to add comments to that kind of file, but I  think it is now okay anyway - hopefully.

I have approved your project.  You will receive an automated e-mail containing detailed information about the approval.

Regards

Hi,
I tried to find if it is possible to add coments to sfd file, couldnot find any. If you know how to do that, please let me know and I will put that. As far as "hum readability" is concerned, the copyright notice in the sfd file is very much readable (try opening sfd file in your browser and it will show that as a kind of plain text file and the copyright notice is very much visible thus).

bye and regards,

Swapnil Krishna Hajare <dreamil>

Hi,

I am waiting for an answer from you.

If within one week I still do not get a reply, I will remove your project.
You will still be able to register it again once you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

Are you still willing to host your project at Savannah?
If not, please tell us - we don't bite, and it will make us gain time.

Regards.

Hey. :)
Sorry for not being clear.

At first, the line: "Copyright: Open"... is now correct.

At second, it it possible to add comments in the .sfd files which are readable by normal humans?
Something like in C{,++}
//  This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify

If it is possible, please include such copyright and license notices as described in http://indictrans.org/src/fonts/gargi-package/gargi.sfd to the top of your file.

Regards and nice weekend,

Sebastian Wieseler <kickino>

Hi,
  sorry for delayed response.
I am agreeable to any GPL version. Please guide us in this. To comply with latest GPL version, what changes are required to be done in the existing licence statement? I am prepared to do all the  necessary changes and offer any type of help to you in this.
We are very much committed to philosophy of free software and want contribute whatever little possible from us.

thanks and regards

Hello.

"This font is released under GNU GPL version 2 by ..." -  Licensing under the "GNU GPL v2 only" is problematic.

Would you agree to license your project under the "GNU GPL v2 or later"?

The reason for this is that when we publish GPL v3,
it will be important for all GPL-covered programs to advance to GPL v3.
If you don't put this in the files now, the only way to port your program to GPL v3 would be to ask each
and every copyright holder, and that may be very difficult.

We can explain the issue in more detail if you wish.
If you have concerns about "GNU GPL v2 or later", we'd be happy to address them too.

Furthermore, if the .sfd format allow comments, please write in human-readable format the whole "copyright line" (copyright+license notice(s)) on top, too.

Regards,

Sebastian Wieseler <kickino>

Hi,
I have made necessary changes and added the proper notice in both ttf and sfd. I have also replaced earlier obsolete GPL licence file by newer one as per the link given by you.
I have uploade the files at
         http://indictrans.org/src/fonts/gargi-package/

Please go throught it

Hello.

I didn't see any notice about copyright and license there. :/

Can you please have a look at
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html and http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html

Furthermore please add the latest version of the GNU GPL, available at http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt (your included version is obsolet) to your project.

Hi,
Your point about licence is noted. I have put all files which we want to host on Savannah at this URL
     http://indictrans.org/src/gargi-package/
This contains:
 a) gargi.ttf - the font file (with licence and copyright info)
 b) gargi.sfd - source format of TTF font (with licence and copyright info)
 c) COPYING - GNU GPL Licence file

Please go through it and let me know if anything else is required.
thanks

Hello.

So you want to host this one source file on Savannah, right? Please add license+copyright notice in the file on top then...

Hi,
sorry for delayed response. Happy Diwali!
The source format for ttf-file is a sfd file as per my knowledge.
I have uploaded the sfd file for latest stable version of gargi (v1.9) to
        http://www.janabhaaratii.org.in/janabhaaratii/src/gargi.sfd
if the above link is not accessible somehow,  please use the alternate link
        http://indictrans.org/src/fonts/gargi.sfd

I hope this answers your query.

Thanks and regards

Hello.

What is the source format for ttf-files?
And can you please provide us with the source of your font format then? :-)

Hi,
  you said :
"We wish to review your source code, even if it is not functional, to catch potential legal issues early. For example, to release your program properly under the GPL you must include a copyright notice and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every file of source code."

I want to bring to your notice that there is no separate source code for a TTF font file. The font itself is kind of source code and any changes to be done to the font can be done done directly to the TTF file. The link to TTF file for current version of Gargi is
      http://www.janabhaaratii.org.in/janabhaaratii/src/fonts/gargi.ttf

the page on which you will find this link and ChangeLog is
      http://www.janabhaaratii.org.in/janabhaaratii/page_gen.php?lang=en&body=/download/download_font.html

if you download this file and open it in any font editor capable of editing OpenType tables (one such editor is fontforge - http://fontforge.sf.net), you can make changes in every aspect of the font.

If the above link is not working, you may also download the TTF file from
        http://www.indictrans.org/src/fonts/gargi.ttf

Please feel free to ask anything else required.

Thank you

Hello.
(mail send by Swapnil Krishna Hajare is available on our mailing list, just for records).

Your dependence looks clear but we would like to review your source code anyway.
For example, to release your program properly under the GPL you must include a copyright notice and
permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every file of source code. This is explained in
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html. Our review would help catch potential omissions such as these.

To help us better keep track of your registration, please use the tracker's web interface following the link below. Do not reply directly, the registration process is not driven by e-mail, and we will not receive such replies.

Hi,
I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

We need a detailed technical description that specifies such requirements as programming languages and external libraries.
It should be at least one-half a page.

Then please include a (perhaps temporary) URL pointing to the source code.
The description you gave when registering will not be read by the general public.
If you are still concerned with privacy, however, you can forward the code to me by email.

We wish to review your source code, even if it is not functional, to catch potential legal issues early.

For example, to release your program properly under the GPL you must include a copyright notice and
permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every file of source code.  This is explained in
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.  Our review would help catch potential omissions such as these.

At last, note that Savannah supports projects of the Free Software movement, not projects of the Open Source movement.

We are careful about ethical issues and insist on producing software that is not dependent on proprietary software.

While Open Source as defined by its founders means something pretty close to Free Software, it's frequently
misunderstood.
For more information, please see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-software-for-freedom.html.
