Hi,

I understood Lightbox at http://www.phatfusion.net/lightbox/ license to be also MIT as it is an extension of Slimbox at http://www.digitalia.be/software/slimbox , which does use the MIT-Style license both on the face of the website and in the script. Also this Lightbox links it's "Useage" as "see Slimbox" with a link to the Slimbox site, where the license notation can be found. Here is the forum where Samuel Birch posted his work, and now I find it, that here he also clarifies that his Lightbox uses MIT license: http://forum.mootools.net/viewtopic.php?id=1947#post-9331 .

I changed the files to include the copyright date and uploaded them to: http://www.web-app.org/downloads/WebAPPv0.9.9.7c.tar.gz

Please check and see how it looks now.

Thank you.

Hi,

There's a problem with: http://www.phatfusion.net/lightbox/
I don't see anything stating the license used by that script (http://www.phatfusion.net/lightbox/lightbox.js) - so by default, it's as if the author reserved all rights. Maybe you can discuss with the author to clarify whether he's using the MIT/Expat license as well? Or maybe I missed where that's is written.

(While we are at it, let's note that a copyright notice includes years. See http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for further information.)

There is an updated tarball of WebAPP v0.9.9.7 now available at http://www.web-app.org/downloads/WebAPPv0.9.9.7b.tar.gz . This package addresses the issues mentioned. This will be an overall improvement. It was fortunate that these problem areas were brought to light at this time.

I've been plugging away at this and am close to finishing up. Planning to have this assembled sometime during the day today.

Update - We have found another image gallery helper (a lightbox) and are in the process of replacing this. Also we will be correcting all the file headers and making other copyright changes as you suggested. We will finish all of this as soon as possible and make a tar.gz of the updated files.

Hi,

I'm reviewing the project you submitted at Savannah.

First, LightBox is "Licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License - http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5/". This license, like all CC licenses, cannot be considered as free software licenses. They are not compatible with the GNU GPL either.

You need to fix this. You could either talk the LightBox author into switching to a proper software license (the Expat being the closest one to cc-by). Or you can switch to another image gallery helper.

Please also add the missing copyright and license notices in webapp.js. In some other files, you may want to explicit add the word "Copyright (C)" instead of just the name of the author.

Last, your copyright notice often mention "Copyright (c) WebAPP - www.web-app.org". Is WebAPP a legal entity that can be assigned copyright to? Otherwise, this should be the name of individual authors.

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide us with an URL to an updated tarball of your project.  Upon review, we will reconsider your project for inclusion in Savannah.

To help us better keep track of your registration, please use the tracker's web interface following the link below. Do not reply directly, the registration process is not driven by e-mail, and we will not receive such replies.

Regards.

  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation

Description:

WebAPP is an acronym name for Web Automated Perl Portal. It is a full featured portal system that may also be used as a content management system for running a website. The WebAPP development community has been in action developing the project at http://www.web-app.org/ since early 2002. The community home page is http://www.web-app.org/cgi-bin/index.cgi. Features of the WebAPP Web Automated Perl Portal system include articles/news, forums, links section, downloads section, polls, gallery, instant messaging, anonymous email, recommend us, send news article, statistics and visitor monitoring, light formatted page for handhelds, user theme and language selection, menu management, and many others. There are a wide variety of mods, plugins, and hacks that have been created for WebAPP to enhance and/or change functionality or add new features. Themes have been designed by various authors and are made freely available for use in changing the look to suit the taste of the individual webmaster. WebAPP uses a language tag system that allows for translation of all text that is part of the main system, such as tags, headings, and messages, and language packs are freely available in many different languages.

WebAPP was originally based on PoaS (Perl on all Site, by Luckie Aria Argathama) which was in turn based YaWPS (Yet Another Web Portal System by Adrian Heissler). A large and active development group over the years has brought about quite a lot of evolution in features and core code design.
