Description:

Billiards is a free simulator for billiards games.  It can be used to practice straight rail, balkline and cushion billiards on your own or against your friends. It is also designed to be customizable enough to allow one to tailor the simulator to his needs (to implement new games for instance or to study the physics of the game by fiddling with the physical properties of the equipment, setting up shots or plotting ball trajectories, velocities and spin).

Billiards consists of two parts.  The core is written in Objective-C (although none of the class libraries have been used) and implements simulation and rendering.  The game itself is written in Lua and is basically a description of the physical properties of the various bodies and joints and of the game logic (scoring, rules etc).  See the introduction in the manual for more details.

Other Software Required:

ODE 0.9, LGPL v2.1 or BSD, http://www.ode.org/ode-license.html

Lua 5.1, MIT, http://www.lua.org/license.html

libGL and libGLU can be provided by many libraries depending on graphics hardware etc.  One free implementation is the Mesa 3D graphics library, MIT (for the core) and LGPL (for Mesa GLU), http://www.mesa3d.org/

OpenAL, LGPL, http://www.openal.org/

Freetype, GPL, http://www.freetype.org/license.html

Fontconfig, homepage is at http://fontconfig.org/wiki/, see the repository for the license

libpng, see http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/src/libpng-LICENSE.txt

Other Comments:

All scripts in the scripts/imagery and scripts/meshes directories and their subdirectories are either images or 3d geometry in binary form.  These were created by myself, in cases based on photographs distributed under the FDL or in the public domain.  They're distributed under the FDL.
