Philipp: all files uploaded at Savannah, code or not, must be released under a free license.  Please clarify the situation.

You are the one who is getting ridiculous:

You say than logos are not part of program but you included it in
tarball.

Sebastian alredy sugessted an alternative (And free) terms than you
can use to avoid misrepresentation of the logos in modified versions
but you refuse to use that terms.

And finally you say than logo's licence are irrelevant... As you also
say "[Savannah] is real free software" and as real free software all
in GNU Savannah must be free, including logos.

I think this is getting ridiculous now. I actually chose Savannah over Sourceforge because I thought it'd better fit for ClipGrab as ClipGrab is real free software (which SF is not) and you guys would be there to support free software.
But obviously, you don't. Or you would if you weren't so keen on carping about all kind of irrelevant things ...

ClipGrab is 100% free software no matter what you say.

Have fun!

They are part of the project.
But licenses can protect these sorts of things only very limited anyway. You would need to register a trademark for this.

Mh, I would add such a term if I'd want to apply further restrictions on the program.
But I think, neither the name nor the logo is part of the actual program.

If your project is licensed under the GPLv3, §7 gives you the choice to add custom terms in certain limits. Maybe this is of interest to you, especially point c.

# b) Requiring preservation of specified reasonable legal notices or author attributions in that material or in the Appropriate Legal Notices displayed by works containing it; or
# c) Prohibiting misrepresentation of the origin of that material, or requiring that modified versions of such material be marked in reasonable ways as different from the original version; or
# d) Limiting the use for publicity purposes of names of licensors or authors of the material; or

However, it is true that the review process will be a bit lengthy. This is because this case is somewhat special and therefore we have no standard procedure for it.

As I said, the images are not required for the program. It will work just fine without the images.
If I'd allow a "free" use of the images, everyone could modify ClipGrab and then call it ClipGrab which I do not want.
Everyone is allowed to modify the program but he shall not use the icon or the logo.

There is still the images issue. Quoting Nicodemo "The images do have

Will you or will you not accept my application for ClipGrab?

The program works just fine without the images ... there's no need for them.
I think this whole process here is a little lengthy ...

The images do have to be under a free license. You can find some free licenses for images and artwork here:

Everyone shall be able to freely redistribute the graphics but I don't want them to be used in modified versions which probably change the original intention of ClipGrab (Of course, you are allowed to implement e. g. fixes so that the program will run correctly on your machine).
If an author wishes to do so, he can simply remove them.
So I hope herein lies no problem concerning ClipGrab's acception at Savannah.

Do you mean require modified versions to delete the logo?

I think than a program can be considered free even if you require than
the logos are changed or removed for modified versions since the logo
is not an functional part but is like a signature, is not unehtical if
only you can use your signature.

Anyway that requirement makes distribucion of modificated version very
annoying.

- From my viewpoint, require modified versions to remove logos it is a
technical problem rather than a ethical one. Any other restriction
about the logo will be unethical too.

To enable everybody modify and redistribute modified versions of you
program easily licence logos so they arecompatible with GPL. I have
dobut if GPL can be use with images since there is no clear point
between source code and object code in this case.

Wath administrators think?

Does that have to be changed before the project can be accepted or can I also correct it with the next release?
And for the images, which licences are accepted? Do they have to be put under a free licence at all?

In the copyright notices years are missing. You should include the GNU
General Public Licence version 3 in plain text and a README file who
enumerates all of the image files and it licence. Make sure than the
auto generated files include the GPL Notice and the Copyright notices.

Please check
http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for
more info and update your files.

Hi, I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in
Savannah. Note that I am not a member of the Savannah administration
team. I only try to help you to fix the remaining issues in this
project submission that I could find. If all hosting requirements for
Savannah are met, an administrator will approve this submission.

The URL provided is too slow: 37.6 B/s and too unreilable, conecctions
cut about every minute, Please attach the tarball to this tracker or
you can forward the code to me by email

We wish to review your source code, even if it is not functional, to
catch potential legal issues early.

For example, to release your program properly under the GNU GPL you
must include a copyright notice and permission-to-copy statements at
the beginning of every copyrightable file, usually any file more than
10 lines long.  This is explained in
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.  Our review would help
catch potential omissions such as these.

Note that sending code to our repositories is a release, since the
code will then be publicly available through anonymous access.
