Hello.

It's okay for us, so I have approved your project as non-GNU.

You will receive an automated e-mail containing detailed information about the approval.

If you would like to offer your project to the GNU project,
please contact the GNU Eval team, following the instructions at
http://www.gnu.org/help/evaluation.html .

But please notice, it's NOT necessary to include the WHOLE license into a README file, if some files cannot carry such notices - like .png or binary files.
It's enough to write the /whole/ lincense+copyright notices down. Should mean, like you always did it in your source code:

"Gship is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify....Foundation, Inc., 51 Franklin St, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA  02110-1301  USA"

And for the .sql files, you can (like you did) include the notices into it, there is no need to write there a README file.

Thanks for your understanding and have a nice weekend.
Faithfully the Savannah Administration,

Hello.

At first, images/README doesn't include any copyright notices and you should add there the /full/ license and permission-to-copy statements there, too.

At second, imates/plone/ lacks an README file. Please include there one, too.

At third, sql/diagram/*-files lack copyright+license notices.

Hi,
http://mail.grtship.com/~anurag/gship/

Regarding Overlib's license problem, i've removed that particular javascript file, and am thinking to rewrite it with something simpler.

thanks,
Anurag

Hi,

I am waiting for an answer from you.

If within one week I still do not get a reply, I will remove your project.
You will still be able to register it again once you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

Are you still willing to host your project at Savannah?
If not, please tell us - we don't bite, and it will make us gain time.

Regards.

Hello.

At first, "This file is part of GNUship." is invalid because we don't accept this name of the reasons mentioned in previous comment(s). Please change your project name totally.

At second, src/scripts/overlib.js was released unter the terms of the "Artistic License" which is not GPL compatible, so you should remove this file from your package.

At third, you should include the whole license+copyright notices and the permission-to-copy statements in your README file and add a second README file into the sub-directory of 'images'.

Hello Sebastian,

Please have a look at today's tarball from this URL,
http://mail.grtship.com/~anurag/gnuship/

I've added License notices in all the files possible, including MySQL dump which will be distributed alongwith.

Portions of this package, like Plone's CSS StyleSheet have its own copyright notice and i haven't touched it. The images directory contains a readme which claims those images to be a part of gnuship.

thanks and regards,
Anurag

Hello.

At first, it is okay while addiing copyright and license notices for the original GIF files into a README file.

At second, if the data of your dump are import you can add copyright and license information in it - we would prefer this - and say there which parts are not owned by you but .... and under which license.

Hope that helps.

Hi, I'm updating the things suggested by you in the source code, and will provide URL for new tarball soon. However i have some queries.

I'm using some icons which were taken from Plone's site. They were originally in GIF format, which i converted using imagemagik. Is that okay?

Also, Do i need to attach GPL statement in the MySQL dump of database? We intend to distribute a standard database dump with the application.

There are some portions of this software which were not written by us, like some javascript functions... and are being used verbatim. Though they are distributed under a Free Software license, they do not carry a license header in it. Should i add appropriate license header in it.

thanks and regards,
Anurag

Hi,
I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

In order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the GNU
GPL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements at the
beginning of every file of source code.

In addition, please include a copy of the plain text version of the GPL, available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt,
into a file named "COPYING".

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.

If some of your files cannot carry such notices (e.g. binary files or your .png files), then you can add a README file in the same directory containing the copyright and
license notices. Check http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for further information.

The GPL FAQ explains why these procedures must be followed.  To learn why a copy of the GPL must be included with every copy of the code, for example,
see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WhyMustIInclude.

And then the address of the FSF has changed, and is now:

51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA  02110-1301  USA

Please update your license notices.

Updates versions of the GPL, LGPL and GFDL can also be found at:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt

Please update the copy of the license (usually, the 'COPYING' file) in your package as well.

You can find some background and a possible migration script at https://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=3766

Hello Sebastian,

Please have a look at the development source code. Download today's tarball from here:

http://mail.grtship.com/~anurag/gnuship/

Same tarball contains today's MySQL dump also. We've made sure that only 100% Free software is used, even in the planning stage. We are also maintaining an inhouse Wiki which we plan to use as software's technical documentation.

Let me know if we've missed some legal issue unknowingly.

As for name for the project, We've been using GNUship as project name internally since project's inception phase.

Will it be okay if we could use the name, "Gship" for savannah usage?

Also, it'll be okay with us if this project is accepted as a Non-GNU software. As for now, we're looking for an online CVS server.

regards,
Anurag

Furthermore, your project is not yet part of the GNU project, so we cannot accept its current name.

While there are non-GNU programs with names that include 'gnu',
such as gnuplot and gnuboy, they are not hosted on Savannah.
We want to maintain the distinction between GNU and non-GNU projects.

When your project is accepted into the GNU project you may change its name. You can do this by asking us.

So should we change your name to "ship"?

Then your project is not part of the GNU project, so we cannot accept its current type.
We want to maintain the distinction between 'GNU' and'non-GNU' projects.
If your project is approved for inclusion into Savannah, we will set it's type to 'non-GNU'.

If your project is accepted into the GNU project you may change its type.  You can do this by asking us.

Hi,
I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

Please include a (perhaps temporary) URL pointing to the source code.
The description you gave when registering will not be read by the general public.
If you are still concerned with privacy, however, you can forward the code to me by email.

We wish to review your source code, even if it is not functional, to catch potential legal issues early.

For example, to release your program properly under the GPL you must include a copyright notice and
permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every file of source code.  This is explained in
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.  Our review would help catch potential omissions such as these.
