Do you have any objections on moving forward? I do not see any replies to the latest posts. Thanks.

FSF response time is indeterminate - sometimes right away, sometimes only after repeated reminders.

Anyway, thanks for doing all that research. It looks conclusive to me. Hugh, let's accept it.

Thanks again,
Karl

I am not sure how long FSF will take to respond?

A bit of time has lapsed. Consequently, I decided to do a little research. Following are my findings.

The FSF directory lists FLTK:

https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/Fltk#tab=Details

GNU Octave uses FLTK:

https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/doc/v4.0.1/External-Packages.html

(search for FTLK)

Fedora Licensing page lists FLTK as FSF compatible:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Licensing:Main?rd=Licensing

(search for FTLK)

Savannah hosts FLPDA, which uses FLTK:
https://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/flpda

I appreciate your efforts and desire to comply with your hosting requirements. Please let me know your thoughts.

As per your request, I sent an e-mail to FSF. I will post an update when I get a response. I appreciate your efforts. Thank you.

Whether the FLTK license is acceptable for Savannah has to be checked with licensing@fsf.org. I can't give a definitive answer, and a non-definitive answer is useless.

Hugh, maybe it would be best if you wrote them, asking specifically about whether we can allow it on Savannah. Include both the url to the license and the actual license text in the mail; that helps them.

Hello,

Thanks for going over the project.

I am confused as to what type of additional header you want me to put in the files? I do not retain copyright over the material I produced. It has been released to the PUBLIC DOMAIN.

The files in question are derivative works. I retained the original copyright and license requirements in the source files. I don't think adding the FDOSTUI project license, which is a CC0, a PUBLIC DOMAIN notice to the modifications will work. That is, they have to retain the same license.

There is no dependency on the FLTK library. The files you listed, with the exception of video.asm are derived from FLTK source.

vidoe.asm and video.inc are also derived works. The original source info.pas is in the notes directory (notes/info.pas). It is unclear what additional information you want me to put in the header. They are already marked as such.

I appreciate your patience and await your comments. Thank you.

Mark

Mark: thank you for submitting and sorry for not getting to this before.  I note that the following files appear to have been derived from other sources:

  • include/slider.hpp
  • include/valuator.hpp
  • include/video.inc
  • src/slider.cpp
  • src/valuator.cpp
  • src/video.asm.

If you have modified those files, I think the copyright position needs to be clearer.  If you have modified them, please could you add additional headers indicating that and specifying a license for your modifications?

In the following file:

  • notes/info.pas

I'm not clear from the header whether the file has been modified or not; if it has, the above applies here as well.

List: dependencies of this project are licensed under "FLTK license," which looks to be LGPL with some modifications.  Please could someone advise on whether

a) the modifications are OK (apologies if the position on this has slipped my mind)
b) whether there is any issue with LGPL version?  The "FLTK license" doesn't appear to specify a version of the LGPL for the license user to apply the modifications to.

Best wishes

Hugh
